GANTS

“The Gants” (1963-1968), based out of West Point, GA They played quite often at the infamous West Point Teen Club (along with the Bushmen, we knew them well). Members were: Danny Hill-Bass; Larry Gay-Rhythm Guitar; Lawrence Charlton-Rhythm Guitar and Percussion-Vocals; Jimmy Fleeman-Drums; and (myself) Jimmy Davis-Lead Guitar-Vocals.

The Gants also played at lot in the south at colleges, high school proms, outdoor events… even at Granny’s in Op, AL and, of course, at the Shack and the Way-Out in Panama City, FL. They had the privilege of playing in concerts in Montgomery, AL, Auburn, AL and Jacksonville, FL along with Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels, Brian Highland, BJ Thomas, and Percy Sledge. The “band” got back together in 1996 (for the very first time in almost 30 years) for all of their 50th birthdays combined, and played at Baby Doe’s Nightclub and Restaurant in Atlanta (a well-know landmark). The band has the distinction of being the last band ever to play there, since the place burned down not more than two weeks later.
