INITIALS

A Valdosta based band

Members are clockwise from bottom left: Scott Hasse, guitar & vocals; Dudley Johnson, drums & vocals; Mike Mink, bass & vocals; and Ben Owens, guitar & vocals. Original drummer Jonathon Havens left the band in mid 1987.

The Initials were a Valdosta-based band from 1987-1988. They performed mainly on the college fraternity party circuit in the Southeast as well as in Valdosta clubs such as the American Legion on Williams Street, Someplace Else, Our Place (formerly the Pizza Villa on Ashley Street), as well as The Sidebar on St. Simon's island, with the occasional trek to the southern music mecca of Athens, Ga. to perform at the Rockfish Palace.

The Initials' repertoire consisted mostly of songs from bands that were popular on college radio such as REM, HooDoo Gurus, The Smithereens, & The Cure. They also performed several original songs with titles such as Saddlesore, Milk Carton, There, There Don't You Cry, and Tennessee, and received some airplay on VSU radio station WVVS. The band also opened for Fetchin' Bones and Dreams So Real, two Southern bands that were popular on MTV in 1988.
After The Initials disbanded in late 1988, members went on to perform in other area bands such as The Whompus Cats, Seabreeze, The Park Marthas, and Jade Holiday.
